WHO WE ARE
North Carolina Mutual Life (NCML) - a life insurance company with over one hundred years of rich history. We are the nation’s largest and oldest insurance company with roots in the African American community. From the very beginning, NCML was well known for providing quality products and services to American families, and our reputation has helped us to grow to insure over 400,000 individual policyholders.
Since the late 1960’s, many employers in the private and public sectors viewed us as the diversity business partner of choice to provide affordable employee benefits to their employees. We consistently deliver prompt, outstanding service to our group clients. Our unique history gives our group clients the opportunity to bring more diversity into their business models.
The Group Insurance Division was established to respond to the needs of employers around the country seeking a strong life insurance company with the additional benefit of satisfying the goals of their diversity programs. Since then, the Group Division has expanded its reach – through our own group policies and through our Strategic Partnerships, we now have a large portfolio of product offerings for employers and affinity groups of all sizes. Many products are available in any region of the United States.
As a direct issuing carrier, as a reinsurer, and as a strategic partner, NCML has the financial strength and stability as well as market knowledge that employers demand when considering their employee benefits program options. Our resources give us flexibility to meet the ever-changing needs of businesses, employees, and their families. Even today we establish and maintain relationships with a variety of group insurance experts to expand our offerings.
GROUP MARKETS
We market our group products using a variety of approaches. First, we depend on our group sales and marketing team to tell the story how our history, size, and ratings may meet an employer’s needs. We also leverage relationships to give us the opportunity to present our capabilities. In addition, we establish compatible broker relationships to market our offerings whenever possible. All these efforts generate opportunities to bid on employee benefit plans.
CORPORATE CITIZEN
As we continue to grow our business, we remain committed to good corporate citizenship. Our key relationships with organizations such as the NAACP, the National Minority Supplier Development Council, the National Urban League, and 100 Black Men of America have gone a long way toward extending the NCML brand. Also, our close affinity with these organizations and events brings us alongside major corporations with interests in promoting diversity, giving us further opportunities to introduce our brand and tell our story.
MARKET SEGMENTS
NCML establishes sales targets in a few broad categories, and we approach these markets on a national basis. Our 3 key target markets are:
- Large groups employing two thousand employees or more
- Middle market employers with two hundred to two thousand employees
- Small employers
